What is Disc Golf?
About Disc Golf
As the name suggests, Disc Golf first started as an idea to play the 18 holes of golf with a plastic disc. The sport came alive in Singapore back in 2006 with the purchase and set-up of ten portable disc golf baskets by SFDA at Pop-Up Disc Golf events in parks and open spaces.
Disc Golf quickly grew in popularity after being seen as a test of precision and skill, expanding the locations of its courses to Holland Village, Outram Park and Ang Mo Kio - Bishan Park. Disc Golf can be played at almost any open space that has few trees, hills or other obstacles, to form a makeshift disc golf course. We're always on the lookout for new sites to play!
How to Play
Similar to golf, the objective of Disc Golf is to acquire a goal with the lowest score, or in golf terms, with the least number of strokes, across a 20-hole course. One point is accrued each time the disc is thrown and whenever a penalty is incurred.
- Tee throws must be made from within the designated tee box. Do not throw until the players in front of you or other park users are out of range.
- After teeing off, the player whose disc is farthest from the basket will throw first.
- Fairway throws must be made with one point of body contact on the spot where the previous throw landed. This spot is known as the lie. You may not make contact with the ground any point closer to the hole than the lie while throwing. A run-up to the lie and normal follow-through after you release the disc is allowed.
- If your disc is fully outside the out-of-bounds line, mark your lie at the place where your disc went out-of-bounds and give yourself a one throw penalty.
- When your disc lies within 10 meters of the basket, you are putting, and may not follow through. After releasing the disc, you must remain balanced on or behind the lie.
- A disc that comes to rest in the basket or chains (but not on top of the chains) constitutes successful completion of that hole. Count the number of throws and penalties to mark your score.
